School Holidays Extended

In response to the ongoing severe cold wave in Gautam Buddh Nagar, the Basic Education Department has announced an extension of school holidays until January 17th. Classes are set to resume on January 18th, but if the harsh weather continues, further extensions may be considered. This directive applies to students from Nursery through 8th grade.

Communication Lapse

A significant oversight occurred when the District Basic Education Officer, Rahul Pawar, issued the closure order for January 16th and 17th on the morning of January 16th, rather than the evening of January 15th. Consequently, many parents and children faced difficulties in the frigid temperatures on the morning of January 16th.

Late Notification

The notification was disseminated to schools around 8 AM, which proved too late for many. Parents and students were already outside the schools, having arrived to drop off their children.

Impact on Gurugram

The cold wave is affecting the entire Delhi-NCR region, with temperatures dropping below 3-4 degrees Celsius in several areas, including Gurugram. Due to these conditions, the education department has also declared school holidays in Gurugram until January 18th, with a planned reopening on January 19th, a Monday.

Weather Conditions

On January 15th, severe cold and fog were prevalent across the NCR, with visibility reduced to just 20-30 meters in many locations due to dense fog, which persisted until around 10 AM. Conditions improved slightly after 11 AM, but similar foggy weather was reported on January 16th.
