Indian students and graduates aspiring to work in Japan now have an exciting opportunity to gain international work experience through the METI Internship Program 2026.
Launched by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), this program allows selected candidates to work with Japanese firms and learn about the country's professional culture and business environment.
Application Timeline
This internship is designed for highly skilled foreign talents and offers both online and offline options. Through this initiative, interns will work with Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), helping to strengthen global business ties while gaining invaluable international experience. Applications are currently open, with the deadline set for June 30, 2026.
Two Internship Formats Available
The METI Internship Program 2026 is divided into two formats to accommodate students' preferences and career goals.
Online Internship
Students can complete their internships remotely while residing in India.
- Internship Duration: August 24 to September 18, 2026
- Total Working Hours: Approximately 80 hours
- Daily Working Hours: 2 to 8 hours
- Final Presentation scheduled for September 18.
In-Person Internship in Japan
Selected students for the physical internship will travel to Japan and work directly with host companies.
Batch 1:
- Arrival Date: October 7, 2026
- Departure Date: November 26, 2026
Batch 2:
- Arrival Date: November 4, 2026
- Departure Date: December 20, 2026
Interns can work for a maximum of 30 working days, with daily hours ranging from 7 to 8.
Stipend, Free Flights, and Accommodation
Benefits for Online Interns:
- Daily stipend of 1,000 Japanese yen
- Access to a laptop, Wi-Fi, and necessary digital tools.
- Internship insurance coverage
Benefits for In-Person Interns:
- Daily stipend of 3,000 Japanese yen
- Round-trip economy airfare to Japan
- Free accommodation during the internship
- Visa assistance and travel insurance
- Mobile phone for emergency communication
- Transportation support within Japan
- Japanese language training before and during the program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years old.
- Must be a resident of an OECD/DAC listed country, including India.
- Applicants should be university students, final-year students, or graduates.
- Proficiency in English or Japanese is mandatory.
- Those currently residing in Japan are not eligible.
- Applicants should not have participated in this program between FY 2016 and FY 2025.
- Interest in working with Japanese companies is essential.

- Enrollment or graduation certificate from the university
- Language proficiency documents
