Indian Railways Announces New Apprenticeship Vacancies

This is a fantastic chance for anyone interested in pursuing an apprenticeship with the railways.


The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) of North Central Railway (NCR) has decided to reopen the application window for apprenticeship vacancies. Additionally, the number of available apprenticeship positions has been increased. Initially, candidates were being selected for 1853 positions, but now a total of 3205 positions will be filled. Interested candidates should apply soon.


Candidates can submit their applications until 31st August 2026 at 23:59. After this deadline, the registration window will close, so it is essential to complete the application process beforehand.




Eligibility Criteria for Railway Apprenticeship


 - Applicants must have passed SSC/Matriculation/10th or an equivalent qualification under (10+2) from a recognized university with at least 50% marks.




 - Additionally, candidates should have completed ITI (IIT) in the relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT.




 - Eligible technical qualifications include ITI Fitter, Welder, Armature Winder, Mechanist, Wireman, Electrician, Painter, Plumber, Carpenter/Wood Work Technician, Draftsman (Civil), Stenographer (English), Mechanic (DSL), Computer Networking Technician, Mechanic cum Operator Electronics Communication System, Stenographer (Hindi), Information Technology and Electronic System Maintenance, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA), Turner.




 - Candidates whose results are not declared by 7th July 2026 will not be eligible to apply.




 - Applicants must be at least 15 years old, and the maximum age should not exceed 24 years as of 7th July 2026.




 - There is a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC applicants.




 - Candidates with disabilities (PWD) will receive a 10-year age relaxation as per regulations.




Selection Process


Selection will be based on a merit list created according to the Apprentices Act of 1961. The merit list will consider equal weightage from both 10th grade and ITI results. Approximately 1.5 times the number of candidates will be called for document/certificate verification. Ultimately, the merit list will be prepared based on unit-wise, trade-wise, and community-wise criteria.




Furthermore, the tentative schedule for document verification will be published on the Railway Prayagraj website. Selected candidates will undergo a one-year training program.




During the training period, candidates will receive a stipend as per regulations, although the exact amount has not yet been disclosed. It is crucial that the candidate's name, father's name, and date of birth match exactly with the records. Any discrepancies during document verification may lead to disqualification.
