Delhi University Elections: Women's Leadership Takes Center Stage

Preparations Underway for DUSU Elections
The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections are gearing up, with major student organizations, including the Left alliance, unveiling their candidate panels for the 2025-26 elections.
Historic Nomination by NSUI
In a significant move towards promoting women's leadership, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has nominated Jocelyn Nandita Choudhary as its presidential candidate, marking the first time in 17 years that a woman will contest for this position. The NSUI highlighted this as a "historic move," noting that no woman has held the presidency since 2008.
Alongside Choudhary, the NSUI has put forth Rahul Jhansla for vice-president, Kabir for secretary, and Luvkush Bhadana for joint secretary.
ABVP's Strategy to Maintain Dominance
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), backed by the RSS, is aiming to retain its influence in Delhi University politics by nominating Aryan Mann for president, Govind Tanwar for vice-president, Kunal Chaudhary for secretary, and Deepika Jha for joint secretary.
SFI-AISA Alliance's Alternative Voice
The left-wing alliance of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Association (AISA) has introduced its panel as a counter to the prevailing "money and muscle power" in campus politics. Their candidates include Anjali from Indraprastha College for Women as president, Sohan Kumar for vice-president, Abhinandan Pratyashi for secretary, and Abhishek Kumar for joint secretary.
This alliance emphasizes critical issues such as women's safety, hostel amenities, metro concessions, and representation for marginalized groups.

The DUSU elections for the academic year 2025-26 are scheduled for September 18, with vote counting set for the following day.
