Review Meeting Highlights Employment Opportunities

A recent review meeting in New Delhi emphasized the importance of improving the employability of students at state universities. Lieutenant Governor Sardar T.S. Sandhu urged these institutions to enhance collaborations with foreign universities and institutes, particularly in fields like AI, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies. He stressed that a student's identity should be defined not just by their degree but by their employable skills. The meeting also included discussions on placement rates and the overall performance of the universities.


Strengthening International Collaborations

Universities have been directed to forge strong partnerships with international institutions. The aim is to prepare students for the rapidly evolving technological and job markets. However, details regarding which foreign institutions will be involved and what new courses will be introduced have yet to be disclosed. The meeting also focused on ensuring better placement outcomes for each graduating batch.


Research and Startups Addressing Local Issues

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the need for university research to tackle real-world problems faced by Delhi. Additionally, efforts to promote startups and foster an entrepreneurial environment on campus were reviewed. Institutions showing a decline in NAAC and NIRF performance were advised to take corrective measures.


NCC-NSS Cadets to Contribute to Civic Responsibilities

NCC and NSS cadets from universities may assist the Delhi Traffic Police in managing traffic around campuses during peak hours. They could also collaborate with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority in emergencies. The Lieutenant Governor mentioned that cadets contributing to such services would receive appropriate recognition, aiming to enhance students' social engagement.


Guidance and Recruitment Improvements

The Lieutenant Governor instructed university heads to be more accessible to students and to establish better guidance and grievance redressal systems on campuses. Universities were also directed to expedite recruitment processes for teaching, non-teaching, technical, and administrative positions. There was a strong emphasis on improving basic facilities for both students and faculty. This meeting was held to assess the progress of directives given during the previous review on May 12.
