Delhi Government Introduces Compassionate Employment Policy for 1984 Riot Victims' Families
Compassionate Employment Initiative in Delhi
Delhi Government Jobs: The Delhi government has initiated a new policy aimed at providing job opportunities to families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. This decision was confirmed by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) following a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Eligibility Criteria for Employment
Who qualifies for the jobs?
According to the Chief Minister, a significant aspect of this policy allows dependents of victims aged over 50, who are struggling to secure employment, to nominate a family member—such as a son, daughter, daughter-in-law, or son-in-law—for job opportunities. This initiative aims to address the long-standing employment assistance cases that have been pending since a 2007 cabinet decision.
Ending the Long Wait
Resolution of Delayed Cases:
This initiative comes after an 18-year delay caused by various administrative hurdles. The Chief Minister emphasized that the introduction of this structured policy will bring an end to the prolonged wait, ensuring that all eligible families receive timely employment assistance and that no legitimate claimant is overlooked. Additionally, the policy includes relaxations regarding age and educational qualifications.
Compliance and Transparency
The Chief Minister assured that all aspects of the policy will adhere to the directives of the Delhi High Court and the existing legal framework. A transparent verification process, along with mechanisms for grievance redressal and departmental allocation, has been established to guarantee a fair and effective recruitment process.
