Delhi Government Implements New Fee Regulation for Private Schools
New Fee Regulation Initiative
Delhi School Fees: The Delhi government has initiated a crucial measure aimed at controlling unjustified fee increases by private educational institutions. A directive has been issued for the establishment of a School Level Fee Regulation Committee (SLFRC) as per the fee regulation legislation. All private schools are required to form this committee by January 10, 2026.
According to Delhi's Education Minister Ashish Sood, this move is intended to alleviate the financial burden on parents and enhance transparency regarding fee adjustments. He emphasized that private schools will no longer have the authority to raise fees without justification. Any fee increase must be accompanied by a valid rationale and proposal submitted to the committee.
Key Features of the Fee Regulation Committee:
1. Establishment of a School Level Fee Regulation Committee (SLFRC) is compulsory for all private schools.
2. The SLFRC must be formed by January 10, 2026.
The names of the committee's chairperson and members will be prominently displayed on the school's notice board and website.
5 parent representatives and 3 teacher representatives will be chosen through a lottery system.
Details regarding the date, time, and venue of the lottery must be announced at least 7 days prior.
School administrations are required to submit their proposed fee structures to the SLFRC by January 25, 2026.
The SLFRC is obligated to provide a reasoned decision on the fee proposal within 30 days.
Legal actions will be pursued for any breaches of regulations, delays, or arbitrary decisions.
This order is effective immediately, with strict compliance required.
Committee Composition:
The committee will consist of 11 members, including 5 parent representatives. Members from the school management and teaching staff will also participate. All fee increase proposals must be submitted to the committee by January 25, 2026, for discussion and recommendations before a final decision is made.
Directorate of Education Orders:
In addition, the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued orders to establish fee fixation committees at both the school and district levels to oversee any irregularities. The district-level committee will also address complaints from parents.
