Controversy Surrounds UP Lekhpal Recruitment 2025: Changes Expected

Overview of UP Lekhpal Recruitment 2025

UP Lekhpal Vacancy 2025: The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Board (UPSSSB) has announced the recruitment for 7994 Lekhpal positions. Although the application process was set to commence on December 29, a controversy has arisen regarding the allocation of posts, particularly concerning the reservations for OBC candidates. This issue has led to political tensions in the state, prompting expectations for adjustments in the recruitment details. A new notification from UPSSSB may be forthcoming in the next week.

Details of the Controversy

OBC Reservation Discrepancies:
The UPSSSB is seeking applications for 7994 Lekhpal roles within the Revenue Department. According to the initial notification, the distribution of posts is as follows: 4165 for general category candidates, 792 for EWS, 1441 for OBC, 1446 for SC, and 150 for ST. This allocation has ignited controversy.

Under the Constitution, OBC candidates are entitled to a 27% reservation, which translates to 2158 posts. However, the UPSSSB's allocation of only 1441 posts for OBCs has led to accusations of rights violations, notably from SP leader Akhilesh Yadav and Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar.

Government Response to the Controversy

Addressing the Discrepancies:
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has voiced his concerns regarding the reservation discrepancies in the UP Lekhpal recruitment. In response, measures are being taken to amend the post allocations. The Revenue Council has been instructed to prepare a proposal for revising the post details and submit it to the UPSSSC promptly.

Timeline for Revised Proposal

Submission of Revised Proposal:
Kanchan Verma, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Revenue Council, has communicated with the UPSSSB, indicating that the requisition for sanctioned Lekhpal posts and the roster-wise vacancies at the divisional level have been provided. The Revenue Council is now tasked with delivering a revised proposal regarding the post details to the UPSSSB within a week. A new notification with updated post details is anticipated before the application process begins.
