Coal India Limited (CIL) has opened applications for various Management Trainee roles. Interested candidates can submit their applications via the official CIL website. The online application process will start on May 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM and will close on June 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM. This recruitment drive aims to fill a total of 660 vacancies, with the date for the Computer-Based Test (CBT) to be announced later.


Vacancies by Discipline

The recruitment notification outlines vacancies across several disciplines, including:



  • Civil Engineering: 178 posts

  • Electrical Engineering: 221 posts (highest number)

  • Mechanical Engineering: 145 posts

  • Other disciplines include Systems, Electronics & Telecommunications, Geology, Industrial Engineering, Official Language (Hindi), and Company Secretary.


Application Fee Details

The application fee is set at ₹1,180 for General, OBC, and EWS candidates. However, candidates from the SC, ST, and PwD categories, as well as Coal India employees, are exempt from this fee.


Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Applicants for engineering roles must hold a full-time degree in the relevant field with at least 60% aggregate marks. A 5% relaxation is available for SC, ST, and PwBD candidates. Final-year students expecting results by August 31, 2026, can also apply.


Age Limit: The upper age limit is 30 years for General and Minority candidates as of April 30, 2026, with age relaxation applicable for reserved categories.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected based on their performance in a Computer-Based Test (CBT), which consists of two papers, each worth 100 marks. The first paper will cover General Knowledge, Reasoning Ability, Numerical Ability, and English, while the second will focus on subject-specific professional knowledge. Each paper will contain 100 multiple-choice questions, and there will be no negative marking.


Salary Structure

Selected candidates will receive a monthly salary of ₹60,000 during their training period, which falls under the E-1 pay scale, ranging from ₹60,000 to ₹1,80,000. After completing the one-year training, candidates will be appointed as Officers in their respective fields.
