Launch of Innovative B.Tech Program

The Central Sanskrit University has unveiled a new B.Tech program focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, set to begin at its Nashik campus in the 2026-27 academic year. This initiative aims to merge modern technology with traditional Indian knowledge, preparing students to harness AI for the preservation of Indian languages, ancient texts, and cultural heritage.

AICTE Approval and Course Significance

This program has received the green light from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is among the first engineering courses offered by a Sanskrit university.

Utilizing AI for Cultural Preservation

India is home to millions of manuscripts in Sanskrit and other ancient languages, many of which remain undigitized. The new curriculum will equip students with skills to employ AI for reading, translating ancient texts, and creating digital archives, thereby aiding in the preservation of India's rich cultural heritage.

Curriculum Overview

The B.Tech program will accommodate 66 students, including 60 regular and 6 additional seats. The curriculum will cover various subjects such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Python programming, Cloud Computing, Deep Learning, and Statistics. Furthermore, students will receive training in advanced technologies like Natural Language Processing (NLP), Speech Recognition, Conversational AI, Computational Linguistics, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) specifically for ancient manuscripts.

Integration of Tradition and Modern Skills

This course will blend AI with traditional Indian knowledge areas, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Astrology (Jyotish), Vastu, and Nyaya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised this initiative, emphasizing its potential to equip youth with contemporary technical skills while maintaining a connection to their cultural roots. With the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the AI field, this program promises to provide students with excellent career prospects while contributing to the preservation of Indian languages and ancient wisdom.
