The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has announced its recruitment drive for the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) for the year 2026. This announcement was made public on May 21, 2026, via the official BRO website. A total of 899 positions are available for eligible candidates.
Eligibility Criteria for Various Posts
Draughtsman: Candidates must have completed their 12th grade with Science subjects and hold a 2-year certificate in Architecture or Draughtsmanship, or a Draughtsman (Civil) trade certificate, along with one year of relevant experience.
Hindi Typist: A minimum of 12th-grade education is required, along with a typing speed of 30 words per minute in Hindi on a computer. Preference will be given to candidates with advanced typing skills.
Store Keeper Technical (SKT): Candidates must have passed the 12th grade and possess knowledge of vehicle or engineering equipment storage. Experience in a related field is advantageous.
Operator Communication: A 10th-grade pass is essential, along with a certificate as a Wireless Operator or Radio Mechanic from an ITI. Trade certificates from the Armed Forces are also acceptable.
OEM (Ordinary Grade): Candidates must have completed the 10th grade and hold a valid license for operating heavy vehicles, dozers, or excavators, with at least six months of operational experience.
Electrician: A 10th-grade pass is required, along with an Auto Electrician certificate from an ITI and one year of relevant experience. Candidates with relevant Defence Services courses are also eligible.
Age Requirements
The minimum age for all positions is set at 18 years, while the maximum age limit is 27 years, calculated as of June 1, 2026. Age relaxation is available for candidates from reserved categories as per Government of India regulations. General category government employees can receive up to 40 years of age relaxation, while SC/ST employees may receive up to 45 years. Additionally, candidates with disabilities (PwBD) are eligible for an extra 10 years of relaxation.
Salary Structure
What is the Salary?
The salary for the various positions is aligned with Pay Band-1. The Draughtsman role offers a salary range of ₹5,200–₹20,200 with a Grade Pay of ₹2,800. Other positions, including Hindi Typist, Store Keeper (Technical), Operator (Communication), Operator (Excavating Machinery) [OG], and Electrician, have a uniform salary scale of ₹5,200–₹20,200 and a Grade Pay of ₹1,900. The primary difference in salary arises from the Grade Pay, reflecting the specialized qualifications required for the Draughtsman position.
