Overview of BPSC TRE-4 Recruitment

The BPSC TRE-4 recruitment has generated significant interest, with the application phase now closed. This recruitment drive by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has witnessed an unprecedented number of registrations.

Record-Breaking Applications

For those aiming to secure teaching positions in Bihar, the fourth phase of the teacher recruitment examination—BPSC TRE-4—has become extremely competitive. The application window has recently closed, and the number of applicants has exceeded all previous records. According to the Commission's data, around 1 million (10 lakh) individuals have applied for 33,320 available positions under TRE-4. This results in a staggering ratio of nearly 30 candidates vying for each position. The influx of applications, particularly from candidates outside Bihar, has intensified the competition.

Comparison with Previous Recruitment Phases

Application Statistics from Earlier Phases:

  • TRE-1: Approximately 800,000 to 826,000 applications.

  • TRE-2: Approximately 600,000 to 732,000 applications.

  • TRE-3: Approximately 450,000 to 596,000 applications.

  • TRE-4: Despite a reduction in vacancies to 33,320, applications have surged past the 1 million mark.

This recruitment, which follows a two-year hiatus, has attracted many candidates, including those who recently qualified for the STET (State Teacher Eligibility Test). The extension of the application deadline from October 26 to November 3, 2026, also contributed to a last-minute surge in registrations.

Vacancy Distribution by Category

The TRE-4 recruitment will fill teaching positions across various classes in government schools in Bihar. The breakdown of the 33,320 vacancies is as follows:

  • 3,847 positions for classes 1 to 5

  • 8,563 positions for classes 6 to 8

  • 4,370 positions for classes 9 to 10

  • 16,540 positions for classes 11 to 12

Notably, a significant number of applicants for primary-level positions hail from other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Delhi, and Haryana, further elevating the competition.

Key Changes in the Examination Process

In light of the increased competition, several important modifications have been made to the selection process. Candidates should be aware that marks will be deducted for incorrect answers; specifically, one-third of a mark will be lost for each wrong answer. Therefore, guessing is discouraged. Additionally, the OMR sheet has been updated to include a fifth option, which candidates can select if they choose not to answer a question. If a candidate skips a question without marking the fifth option, the negative marking rule will apply.
