Eligibility Criteria for MEA Internship

Who is eligible to apply?
The application window for the MEA Internship Program 2026 is currently active, closing on September 27. Applications must be submitted online through the official website: internship.mea.gov.in. Candidates in their final year of graduation or those who have already graduated can apply. Additionally, applicants must be Indian citizens and should not exceed 25 years of age as of December 31.


Selection Process Overview

How are candidates selected?
The MEA has released a notification detailing the selection process for the internship. A shortlist of candidates will be published on October 7, following the application deadline. The selection will occur in two phases: the first phase involves screening candidates, while the second phase includes personal interviews conducted via video conferencing. A final merit list will be created afterward. Notably, the policy ensures that at least 30% of the internship positions are reserved for female candidates.


Stipend and Travel Expenses:
Interns selected for the MEA program will receive a monthly stipend of ₹10,000. The internship is set to take place from October 2026 to March 2027, totaling a stipend of ₹60,000. Furthermore, the Ministry will reimburse one round-trip airfare for the intern, capped at the economy-class fare between Delhi and either the intern's home state capital or their college/university location. However, candidates must arrange and cover their accommodation and meal expenses in Delhi during the internship.

The MEA's notification specifies that candidates from various states can participate in the internship each term. This term, candidates from 14 states and four Union Territories are eligible. Specifically, candidates from Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry are invited to apply.
