NTA Takes Action Against Misinformation Ahead of NEET UG 2026
Telegram Restrictions Implemented Before NEET UG 2026
Telegram's Editing Feature Disabled: In preparation for the NEET UG re-examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented a crucial measure to combat rumors and misinformation regarding potential paper leaks on social media platforms. The agency has announced that the message-editing capability on Telegram will be disabled in India until June 30, aiming to prevent the dissemination of false information related to the exam.
Misuse of the Editing Feature:
The NTA highlighted that administrators of Telegram channels could modify previously sent messages, even after they were delivered. They could also append new files or PDFs to these messages while keeping the original timestamps intact. This feature was exploited by some individuals who would attach the actual question paper post-exam and falsely assert that it had been leaked prior to the test.
Spread of Confusion Through Fake Screenshots:
The agency noted that edited message screenshots were quickly shared across social media, causing confusion among students and parents, who began to believe that the exam questions had been leaked beforehand. The NTA emphasized that such actions are misleading and aimed solely at spreading rumors.
Measures Ahead of the June 21 Re-examination:
The NEET UG re-examination is set for June 21. This decision was made to ensure that no false claims regarding paper leaks could arise from edited messages after the exam, thereby maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
Temporary Telegram Access Restrictions:
To combat fraud and misinformation surrounding the exam, access to Telegram in India has been temporarily limited until June 22, following directives from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The government and NTA are actively monitoring online activities during this period.
Targeting Students and Parents:
The NTA reported that certain Telegram channels were making fraudulent claims to provide the exam paper for a fee from students and their parents. These channels operated under names like "PAPER LEAKED NEET," "Re-NEET 2026," "Private Mafia," and "REE NEET MAFIAA." The agency reassured that the exam question paper is securely managed and not accessible to anyone prior to the examination.
NTA's Warning to Candidates:
The agency has cautioned candidates against falling victim to any individual, website, or Telegram channel that claims to offer the exam paper. The NTA asserts that all such claims are scams designed to exploit students. Candidates are advised to obtain all official information regarding the examination exclusively through the NTA's authorized channels.
