New Initiative to Encourage Research Among Students

In a bid to spark interest in research and innovation among young learners, the Ministry of Education has unveiled a new initiative. Prestigious technical and research institutions, including the IITs, will now welcome schoolchildren to their campuses, allowing them to explore ongoing research and innovation projects. This initiative also provides an opportunity for parents to closely observe the educational environment and evaluate the institutions' dedication to student development.

IIT Madras has initiated the "Open House 2026" program aimed at schoolchildren, which has inspired other IITs and leading technical institutions to launch similar programs. IIT Madras has announced that its campus will be open to the public from January 2 to January 4, 2026, although prior registration will be required for students, parents, and entrepreneurs.

As part of this initiative, various research and technical institutions are encouraged to present their research and innovation efforts, including setting up informative stalls. IIT Madras plans to open its laboratories and academic facilities to school students, reflecting its commitment to this initiative, which has been in development for the past two years.

All leading technical institutions are tasked with showcasing their activities to students from both urban and rural schools, as well as to interested students nationwide. This initiative aligns with the National New Education Policy (NEP), which advocates for top institutions to mentor schoolchildren and cultivate their talents.
