CBSE Launches Exposure Visits for School Principals to Enhance Skills Education
CBSE's New Initiative for Principals
Overview: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to provide principals from affiliated schools with a chance to explore skills-based and experiential learning methodologies at esteemed institutions nationwide. To facilitate this, the CBSE will conduct exposure visits to select educational establishments across India.
Details of the Exposure Visits
Scheduled from January 22 to January 30, these visits require prior registration from the participating principals. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes the importance of skills and vocational education in schools. The CBSE had previously initiated a similar program two years ago, periodically selecting renowned institutions for these visits. This year, five notable institutions have been chosen.
Selected Institutions for Visits
The institutions selected for this year's exposure visits include:
- Atlas SkillTech University, Mumbai
- Lovely Professional University, Punjab
- Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Assam
- Birla Institute of Technology, Jharkhand
- Footwear Design and Development Institute, West Bengal
Goals of the Exposure Visits
The primary aim of these visits is to provide school principals with firsthand experience of best practices, enabling them to incorporate skills and vocational education into their teaching frameworks. Additionally, the program seeks to enhance their understanding of interactive and experiential teaching methods. The CBSE has specified that only principals who have not participated in previous exposure visits are eligible to apply, and confirmation of participation via email is required.
Resources for Skills Education
CBSE's skills education textbooks, known as the Kaushal Bodh series, are available in print and can also be downloaded from both the NCERT and CBSE academic websites. Furthermore, the CBSE has previously indicated that schools should organize a skills fair at the end of the academic year, allowing students to demonstrate the skills they have acquired through their projects.
