CBSE Board Exam 2026: Key Updates on 10th Grade Examination Structure
Overview of CBSE Board Exams
CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the 10th and 12th board examinations will commence on February 17th. A recent notification has been released concerning the 10th board exams, indicating that this year, two separate exams will be conducted for 10th-grade students. The CBSE has addressed student concerns regarding the first exam, stating that all students must participate in it, regardless of their circumstances.
Mandatory First Exam Details
First Exam Requirements:
The CBSE has made it clear that attendance at the first 10th-grade exam is compulsory for all students. If a student fails to appear for three or more subjects in this initial exam, they will be ineligible to take the second exam. The second exam can be utilized for supplementary or improvement purposes.
Consequences of Missing the First Exam
Missed Exam Protocol:
Students who do not attend the first 10th-grade board exam will be categorized as Essential Repeat. These students will only have the opportunity to take the main exam scheduled for February of the following year. Additionally, those who receive a compartment result in the first exam will be permitted to sit for the second exam under the compartment category. The CBSE has also clarified that no additional subjects can be taken separately after completing Class 10.
Improvement Opportunities in the Second Exam
Score Enhancement:
The CBSE has reiterated that all students must take the first 10th board exam. Those who pass will have the chance to improve their scores in up to three subjects—Science, Mathematics, Social Science, and Languages—during the second exam.
The second 10th board exam will be available under specific categories: the first category allows for improvement in a maximum of three core subjects, while the second category is for students who need to retake due to failure or compartment status. Students with a third-class compartment or those seeking improvement will also have the opportunity to take the second exam.
