CBSE Announces Guidelines for Private Students' Class 12 Practical Exams in 2026
Important Guidelines for Private Students
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released crucial guidelines for private students participating in the Class 12 practical board examinations scheduled for 2026. According to the board, these practical exams will take place from February 23 to March 17, 2026. During this timeframe, all eligible students are required to appear for their practical exams at their designated examination centers.
The board has clarified that for subjects without a practical component, there will be no requirement for project work or internal assessments. Students enrolled in such subjects will not need to submit separate projects or obtain internal marks.
Marks Determined by Theory Exams
The total marks for these subjects will be determined solely based on the theory examinations. If a subject typically includes practical or project marks, but these are not applicable for private students, the board will allocate final marks in proportion to the scores obtained in the theory exams.
CBSE's Directives to Affiliated Schools
CBSE has also issued essential instructions to all affiliated schools. They must ensure that internal examiners are present during the practical exams. If a subject teacher is unavailable at a particular examination center, a qualified teacher from a nearby CBSE-affiliated school will be appointed. This measure aims to maintain transparency and fairness in the examination process.
The board has specified that only answer sheets provided by the regional office should be used for the practical exams. Examiners have been instructed to fill in the students' details, marks, and other necessary information accurately to avoid any errors.
Locations for Practical Exams
As per the official notification, practical exams will be conducted at the same schools or examination centers designated for the theory exams. The appointment of external examiners will be managed by the relevant regional director or officer, while the internal examiner's responsibility will fall on the center superintendent, who will select a qualified teacher from their school.
Eligibility for Students
Students eligible to participate in these practical exams include those who appeared for Class 12 in 2025 or 2024 but did not receive practical marks due to reasons such as absence or re-examination. These students can take the practical exams in the academic session of 2026-27. Additionally, students from 2023 or earlier who applied in the private category for all subjects will also be able to participate in their respective practical exams. CBSE has provided clear and organized guidelines for private students to ensure a smooth and fair examination process.
