Upcoming PhD Admission Phase at BHU



The second phase of PhD admissions at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is anticipated to commence by the end of next month, featuring notable changes in the admission protocol. In cases where applications for PhD positions in specific departments significantly surpass the available slots, a preliminary screening of candidates may be implemented. Following this, those who qualify will be invited for interviews. Furthermore, efforts are being made to compile a unified merit list for applicants from both primary and allied disciplines, enhancing research opportunities for aspiring students.


Preliminary Screening for High Application Volumes

The university has initiated the process of gathering information regarding vacant PhD positions. If a particular course experiences an overwhelming number of applications, the respective department may opt to conduct a screening test. This decision was reached during the Academic Council meeting held in May. In some instances, there were as many as eight candidates competing for a single seat, making it impractical to interview all applicants directly. Therefore, the option for an initial screening has been introduced, although the final decision will be made by the relevant committee.


Biannual PhD Admissions at BHU

This year, BHU has implemented a biannual PhD admission system to accommodate candidates who missed the first round. The university aims to streamline the admission process, ensuring it is student-focused and transparent. For the upcoming phase, preparations are underway to create a combined merit list for candidates from both main and allied subjects, with data on available seats being collected ahead of the admissions.


Recognition for BHU Faculty

In a notable achievement, three professors from BHU's Institute of Science have been elected as Fellows of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) for 2026. The honored faculty members include Prof. Shashi Pandey (Botany), Prof. Prakash Kumar Singh (Geology), and Prof. Rajendra Kumar Singh (Head of the Physics Department). They will be formally inducted during the NASI annual session at BHU in December.
