Significant Update on Civil Services Examination

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced a pivotal change for the Civil Services Examination scheduled for 2026. For the first time, candidates will receive a provisional answer key right after the conclusion of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination. This initiative aims to boost transparency and allow candidates to promptly voice any objections. Previously, the answer key was only made available after the final results, which limited students' ability to evaluate their performance accurately. With this new approach, candidates can verify their answers immediately post-exam, aiding them in making informed decisions about their future study strategies.

Preliminary Examination Date Set

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination is slated for May 24, 2026. Following the exam, a provisional answer key will be published, enabling candidates to check their responses. This change comes in response to long-standing requests from candidates who felt there was no effective way to challenge specific questions or answers in the past.

Online Objection Registration Now Available

Under the new system, candidates can now submit their objections online. The Commission has established a 'Question Paper Representation Portal' (QPRep) where candidates can express their concerns or suggestions until 6:00 PM on May 31, 2026. This service will be accessible through the UPSC's official website.

Reducing Candidate Uncertainty

Annually, over 500,000 candidates take the UPSC Preliminary Examination, but only about 12,000 to 15,000 advance to the Main Examination. Previously, students often faced uncertainty about whether to concentrate on preparing for the Main Examination or to focus on the Preliminary Examination for the next year. With the prompt release of the answer key, candidates can now quickly assess their performance.

Chairman's Remarks on the Initiative

UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar praised this initiative as a major step towards enhancing transparency, accountability, and participation in the examination process. He emphasized that the Commission aims to build candidates' trust while maintaining a fair and merit-based selection system.
