Upcoming Changes to JEE Advanced Exam Pattern: What to Expect
JEE Advanced Exam Pattern Updates
JEE Advanced: Significant modifications to the JEE Advanced exam format are on the horizon as the central government prepares for these changes. The revised structure will incorporate aptitude questions alongside the traditional subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Reports indicate that a committee of IIT experts, led by Professor Manindra Agarwal, the Director of IIT Kanpur, will devise a comprehensive plan for these reforms within the next six months, under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The implementation of this action plan will occur gradually, informed by pilot testing and subsequent evaluations.
Increased Frequency of Exams
Currently, JEE Advanced is conducted once annually, but the new approach aims to hold the exam three to four times a year. Additionally, there are proposals to administer the exam over several days and in various time slots.
Reduction in PCM Questions
The existing format of JEE Advanced primarily focuses on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. However, with the introduction of aptitude questions, there may be a decrease in the number of PCM questions. This change is intended to evaluate students' logical reasoning, mathematical abilities, and problem-solving skills, potentially making the exam less daunting. The goal is to prioritize critical thinking and practical skills over rote subject knowledge.
Rationale Behind the Changes
The National Education Policy advocates for minimizing examination-related stress. This shift in the exam pattern aims to lessen students' reliance on coaching institutes. Notably, there are around 19,000 seats available in IITs, with approximately 150,000 to 200,000 candidates competing for these positions.
