Overview of NEET UG Counselling Updates



NEET UG Counselling Process: For those involved in the NEET UG counselling, the Central Government has unveiled significant updates aimed at simplifying the medical admission process. The Ministry of Health has introduced several groundbreaking changes to enhance transparency and reduce stress during counselling.


Key Reforms in the Counselling Process

Following a review led by Health Minister JP Nadda, the new NEET UG regulations include 'one-time physical reporting' and 'online document verification.' Candidates who receive a seat in the first or second counselling round will no longer need to travel to their assigned medical colleges for upgrades. The entire procedure can now be managed online through mobile devices or laptops.


How One-Time Physical Reporting Works

Previously, candidates had to visit their assigned college in person after receiving a seat in the first round, even if they aimed to upgrade in the second round. With the new guidelines, candidates can verify their documents and secure provisional admission online, saving both time and travel expenses.


Float and Freeze Options Explained

During the NEET UG counselling, candidates will have two essential options:



  1. Float: If you are allocated a seat but wish to aim for a better college in the next round, select 'Float.' This keeps your current seat secure while allowing online document verification. If you obtain a better college in the next round, your previous seat will be reassigned to another candidate.


  2. Freeze: If you are content with your allocated seat or wish to retain it after the third round, choose 'Freeze.' After this, candidates must visit the respective college for physical reporting, submit original documents, and pay the required fees.



Additional Reforms for Efficiency

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced two more significant changes to enhance the NEET UG counselling experience:



  • Online Seat Resignation: Candidates can now resign from their allotted seats online via the MCC portal, eliminating the need for in-person visits.


  • Dedicated NRI Quota Portal: A new portal has been established for NRI quota document submissions, addressing previous issues with email submissions.



Cybersecurity Measures and Support for PwBD Candidates

To ensure integrity during the NEET UG counselling, robust cybersecurity protocols have been implemented. A system developed with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will automatically pre-fill data from the NTA. Additionally, the number of assessment centres for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) has increased from 16 to 61, and an appellate board has been established to handle grievances in line with updated NMC guidelines.
