Students Face Long Commutes to UP Board Exam Centers in Agra
Exam Center Assignments Cause Concern
Students in the Agra district are experiencing significant challenges as their UP Board exam centers have been designated at a distance of 30 km. This decision has sparked complaints from parents and educational institutions, who are urging for a reassessment of the exam locations to alleviate the travel burden.
Background Information
The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) established guidelines indicating that exam centers should ideally be located within 30 km of students' homes or schools for their convenience. However, despite three revisions to the center assignments, many students in Agra are still facing lengthy commutes.
The final list of exam centers for all 75 districts was published on 30th December 2025.
Agra has been allocated 154 exam centers, but there have been objections regarding the distance for certain students, particularly those from Rajendra Singh Inter College in Rampura, Garhi Harlal.
Revisions Timeline
Initial List:
High school students and intermediate girls were assigned to Shri Nathi Lal Inter College in Saiya, Shyaramau.
Intermediate boys were designated to SMT HD Inter College in Shamshabad, Garhi Baldev.
Second Revision:
All students were relocated to Shri Nathi Lal Inter College in Shamshabad, Garhi Jehan, which is approximately 8 km away and more convenient, adhering to UP Board guidelines.
Final List:
Unexpectedly, the center was changed again to Shri Ishwar Maharaj Inter College, Nagla Teja, Saiya, now located 30 km away from students’ schools.
Current Developments
School officials assert that the second revision center was a more suitable option that complied with UP Board standards.
Despite ongoing objections from parents and school authorities, the final allocation remains at a distance of 30 km, compelling students to undertake long journeys on exam days.
The district education officer, Chandra Shekhar, stated that the center assignments are determined based on geo-location distance calculations, but the concerns have been communicated to the UP Board for further consideration.
Upcoming Exam Schedule
High school and intermediate exams in Uttar Pradesh are set to commence on 18th February 2026.
Students and their families continue to advocate for closer exam centers to reduce travel-related stress and logistical challenges on exam days.
