Overview of NEET PG Exam 2026 Changes



NEET PG Exam 2026: Exciting updates have been announced for the numerous candidates gearing up for the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination (NEET PG). The Union Health Ministry has rolled out several important modifications aimed at enhancing the exam experience. Candidates will now have the option to choose three preferred exam cities, with notifications about their designated exam center being sent out roughly three weeks before the examination date. Additional initiatives have been introduced to streamline the examination process and improve transparency.


The NEET PG 2026 is set to take place on August 30. This year, over 273,000 candidates have registered, reflecting an increase of about 12.5% compared to last year.


To ensure a secure and equitable examination environment, multi-layered security protocols will be in place. These will include pre-exam inspections of centers, CCTV monitoring, biometric checks, candidate searches, signal jammers, live surveillance, and supervision by independent observers.


Five Major Changes for NEET PG 2026

1. Choice of Exam Centers: Candidates can now select three preferred states for their exam center, with the state of their correspondence address being prioritized. This change aims to reduce the need for students to travel long distances for the exam.


2. Advance Notification of Exam City: Candidates will receive information about their exam city approximately three weeks prior to the exam, a significant improvement from the previous practice of providing this information just days before the test, which often complicated travel and accommodation arrangements.


3. Revised Exam Pattern: The NEET PG 2026 will consist of 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), reduced from 200. The exam duration will remain at 210 minutes, allowing candidates more time per question.


4. Single Shift Examination: This year, the NEET PG will be conducted in a single shift, ensuring that all candidates receive a question paper of uniform difficulty, thereby enhancing fairness in evaluation.


5. Enhanced Security Measures: The examination will incorporate Aadhaar verification, biometric checks, and, if necessary, iris scans. The entire process, from question paper preparation to delivery at exam centers, will be secured through encryption and advanced digital systems. Over 60,000 personnel will be deployed to facilitate the smooth execution of the exam.
