Significant Changes in BHU PhD Admission Process for 2023
Major Updates in PhD Admission at BHU
Varanasi: Kashi Hindu University has introduced substantial modifications to its PhD admission process this year. According to the new guidelines, 80% of the seats will be allocated to candidates from the main subjects, while the remaining 20% will be reserved for allied subjects. The university has announced that there will be no PhD seats available in several disciplines, including Arabic, foreign languages, Telugu, and Linguistics, as no seats have been released under the NET or JRF categories for these subjects.
The university administration has clarified that the online application process for the PhD program has not yet commenced but will be activated soon. The allocation of seats across all faculties at BHU will adhere to the specified percentages: 80% for main subjects and 20% for allied subjects.
Application Fee Structure
In contrast, the IMS BHU will follow a different structure, reserving 50% of the seats for main subjects and 50% for allied subjects. The allocation of seats will be entirely merit-based. The application fee has been set at ₹600 for candidates from the general, OBC, and EWS categories, while SC and ST applicants will need to pay ₹300.
University's Clarification
The university has also stated that if there are not enough qualified candidates in either the main or allied categories for a subject, seats may be interchanged between the categories. However, this rule will not apply to IMS. In cases where two candidates have identical scores, the older candidate will be given a higher rank.
Updates on Verification and Interview Process
Candidates who do not receive a call letter for verification or interviews in the first phase will need to apply in the second phase. Admissions will be granted for vacant seats during this phase. If there are unfilled seats in a specific category, they will be filled by candidates from that same category in the next phase.
Changes in Evaluation Process
There have also been changes in the evaluation process for JRF candidates. Their NET scores will not be included in the merit list. Instead, they will receive 100% weightage based on their interview performance. For NET-qualified candidates, the weightage will be 70% for the NET exam and 30% for the interview. The results of the PhD interviews will be uploaded to the login portal for all candidates.
A list of main and allied subjects has been released, which includes Nepali, Tamil, Marathi, English, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Archaeology, Buddhist Studies, Arts, and Fine Arts. The university has indicated that the number of seats and the availability of subjects will depend on departmental requirements.
