NTA Introduces Facial Recognition Technology for JEE Mains 2026
Introduction of Facial Recognition in JEE Mains
New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the implementation of facial recognition technology for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains 2026). This initiative aims to enhance security at examination centers. A senior official from the Ministry of Education stated that biometric verification and live photography will also be introduced during the entrance exams.
Candidate Identification Process
According to a source from the Ministry of Education, 'The facial recognition system and live photography during application submission will be implemented. This system will be in effect starting January for the JEE (Main) exam.'
The facial recognition technology is considered a significant improvement in verifying candidates' identities. It analyzes unique facial features and matches them against stored records to confirm a person's identity. This allows for real-time verification and reduces the chances of cheating during the exam.
Necessary Updates for Candidates
To facilitate this change, the NTA issued a public notice in September, urging JEE Mains candidates to update their Aadhaar card information. Students were advised to double-check their name, date of birth, photo, address, and father's name.
In line with this, the NTA announced in October that it would obtain candidates' information such as name, date of birth, photo, and address through Aadhaar authentication from UIDAI.
JEE Mains 2026 Schedule
The NTA is set to conduct the JEE Mains 2026 in January. Candidates can expect to receive their city allotment in the first week, with admit cards being issued three days prior to the exam date. It is essential for candidates to carry a printed copy of their hall ticket and a valid ID to the examination hall.
Failure to do so will result in being barred from taking the exam. For students appearing for board exams in 2026, here’s how to manage your time effectively.
Aadhaar-Based Facial Verification in NEET UG
Earlier this year, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) tested Aadhaar-based facial recognition during NEET-UG 2025. This pilot project was conducted at select centers in Delhi.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the trial showed immense potential, indicating how facial recognition could help prevent fraud in entrance examinations.
