Overview of NEET PG 2026 Examination



The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted the NEET PG 2026 exam on August 30, 2026. Following the conclusion of the exam, millions of candidates are eagerly awaiting the release of the answer key. It is expected that NBEMS will soon publish the answer key on its official website.


Understanding the Answer Key and Scoring

Once the answer key is released, candidates will be able to compare their responses with the officially accepted answers, allowing them to estimate their potential scores. However, the final scores and ranks will be determined solely by the official results from NBEMS.


Exam Pattern Changes

This year, the NEET PG exam pattern has undergone modifications. A total of 180 multiple-choice questions were asked, with a maximum score of 720 points available for the entire paper. Compared to previous years, the number of questions has been reduced, enabling candidates to easily calculate their potential scores based on the number of correct and incorrect answers.


Marking Scheme Explained

According to the marking scheme for NEET PG 2026, candidates will receive 4 points for each correct answer. Conversely, there will be a deduction of 1 point for each incorrect answer. No points will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.


Formula for Calculating Potential Score:


Total Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 4) - (Number of Incorrect Answers)


For instance, if a candidate answers 150 questions correctly and gets 20 wrong, their potential score would be 600 - 20, resulting in a total of 580 points.


Tie-Breaking Rules for Candidates

In cases where two or more candidates achieve the same score, tie-breaking rules will be applied to determine their ranks. The candidate with fewer incorrect answers will be prioritized. If there is still a tie, the number of incorrect answers in each section will be considered in the following order:



  • Section A


  • Section B


  • Section C


  • Section D


  • Section E



If a tie persists, the candidate with higher total marks in MBBS professional exams will be favored. If there is still no resolution, the older candidate will receive a better rank.


Candidate Statistics and Re-Exam Announcement

According to updates from NBEMS, a total of 265,980 candidates were registered for the NEET PG 2026 exam, which took place across 1,111 examination centers in 338 cities nationwide. Out of these, 263,535 candidates completed the exam. However, due to a technical issue related to electricity at two centers in the Sitapura area of Jaipur, 2,445 candidates were unable to finish.


Re-Exam Scheduled for Affected Candidates


A re-examination for the affected candidates in Jaipur is set to take place on September 5, 2026, at 3 PM. Following the technical difficulties at the two centers, NBEMS has decided to conduct a re-exam for those impacted.


All candidates are now looking forward to the answer key release from NBEMS, which will allow them to match their response sheets and estimate their scores.
