Govt Jobs 2026: On Saturday, Maharashtra's Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, announced plans to recruit 5,500 assistant professors for senior colleges across the state by March 2026.

This announcement was made during the 28th convocation ceremony at Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University in Nanded.

Patil confirmed that the government has sanctioned the hiring of 5,500 assistant professors along with 2,900 non-teaching staff for senior colleges, with approvals from both the Finance and Planning departments.

Swift Recruitment Process Ahead

Assistant Professor Recruitment Process to be Completed Soon

The minister indicated that a Government Resolution (GR) will be released shortly, aiming to fill the 5,500 vacant assistant professor roles before the end of March next year.

He also mentioned that there was prior approval for the recruitment of 700 assistant professors in universities, but the process was stalled due to a suggestion from the former Governor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, for an alternative approach.

With Radhakrishnan now serving as Vice President, Patil plans to discuss the matter with the new Governor, Acharya Devvrat.

International Student Enrollment

4,000 Students from 65 Countries Enrolled

Patil emphasized the need for universities to enhance their appeal to international students. This year, an agency facilitated the enrollment of 4,000 students from 65 different countries, although the majority chose to study in Pune and Mumbai.

He remarked on the potential of today's youth to drive societal change.

Patil stated, "The Maharashtra government has opened doors of opportunities through initiatives like Startup India, Make in India, and Digital India. You have the power to experiment, innovate, and create new paths. But remember, entrepreneurship and careers should always be based on values and social responsibility."
