Changes to Internal Choices in Question Papers

The Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has announced modifications to the examination rules for classes 9 through 12, set to take effect in the 2026-27 academic year. Notably, the new guidelines eliminate internal choices for two-mark questions in core subjects, while maintaining this option for three-mark and four-mark questions.

These adjustments will be applicable to exams conducted during the 2026-27 academic session. The Board's Curriculum Committee convened on August 20, 2025, and the Executive Committee ratified these changes on August 28, 2025.

Details on Two-Mark Questions

What changes for two-mark questions?

Under the revised rules, students will not have internal choices for two-mark, very short-answer questions in core subjects. This mandates that students respond to the specific questions presented.

In contrast, internal choices will still be available for three-mark and four-mark questions. Here’s a summary of the changes:

  • Two-mark questions: No internal choice.

  • Three-mark questions: Internal choice provided.

  • Four-mark questions: Internal choice provided.

Students should focus on preparing thoroughly for the two-mark questions in their core subjects.

Revised Rules for Skill-Based Subjects

What are the new rules for skill-based subjects?

The Board has also updated the internal choice policy for subjects aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF).

According to the new notification, internal choices will be available for five-mark long-answer questions and seven-mark descriptive questions in these subjects. This policy will also be effective from the 2026-27 academic session.

The Board has directed relevant authorities to ensure that schools and students are informed about these changes.
