Changes in Registration Dates
IIT Guwahati has updated the registration dates for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Initially scheduled to commence on August 25, the application process will now begin on August 28, 2025, and will remain open until September 28, 2025. Interested and eligible candidates can check the official notification on the website gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Additionally, candidates can apply with a late fee until October 9, 2025.
Application Deadline
The institution has also extended the final date for registration. Candidates will now be able to submit their applications until September 28, 2025. Furthermore, those applying with a late fee will have the opportunity to do so from September 29 to October 9, 2025.
Details About the GATE Exam
According to IIT Guwahati, the GATE 2026 examination is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The test will be conducted in two shifts: the morning session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Admit cards will be available for download on January 2, 2026, and the results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2026. Candidates can download their scorecards from March 27 to May 31, 2026.
Subjects Covered in the Exam
This year's GATE will cover approximately 30 subjects, including Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering, among others. Notably, the Engineering Sciences paper will feature a new section on Energy Science.
Application Fees
The entire application process for GATE 2026 will be conducted online, encompassing form filling, payment of application fees, and uploading necessary documents. The application fee varies by category: female candidates, SC, ST, and differently-abled individuals will pay ₹1,000, while other candidates will be charged ₹2,000 during the regular period and ₹2,500 during the extended period.
