In the recently published QS Global MBA Rankings 2027, IIM Bangalore has emerged as the highest-ranked Indian institution, achieving a joint global rank of 64. Following closely are IIM Ahmedabad at the 70th position and IIM Calcutta at 95th.


Increase in Indian Business Schools Representation

The QS Global MBA Rankings 2027, released on September 16, showcases a notable increase in the representation of Indian business schools, with 19 institutes making the list. This is a significant rise from just 7 institutes in 2022 and 5 in 2020. Among the newcomers, O.P. Jindal Global University stands out, ranking in the 171–180 band. Other first-time entrants include Jaipuria Institute of Management, the School of Business and Management at Christ (Deemed to be University), the School of Leadership and Management at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, and Vikrant University Gwalior, all categorized in the ‘301+’ range.


IIM Bangalore's Performance

For the fourth consecutive year, IIM Bangalore retains its title as India's top MBA institute. However, it has experienced a decline in its global ranking, dropping from 52nd to a joint 64th position. The institute excelled in employability, ranking 29th globally and second in Asia. Additionally, it holds the 51st position in thought leadership. IIM Ahmedabad, ranked joint 70th, is the only Indian institution in the global top 100 for ‘Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes,’ where it ranks 84th. IIM Calcutta follows at 95th, with all three IIMs experiencing notable changes in their rankings.


Top 10 Rankings Dominated by US Institutions

The QS MBA Rankings 2027 sees US institutions dominating the top tier, with MIT Sloan School of Management achieving the number one spot for the first time. Harvard Business School is in second place, while the Graduate School of Business and Penn (Wharton) occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively. In Asia, the National University of Singapore Business School leads, ranking 23rd globally.


Ranking Criteria Explained

The QS rankings are based on five critical criteria: Employability (40% weightage), Value for Money (20%), Alumni Outcomes (15%), Thought Leadership (15%), and Diversity (10%). This year, Indian business schools faced intense competition from global counterparts, particularly in areas such as Return on Investment, Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes, and Diversity. Notably, ten Indian institutions have shown improvement in Thought Leadership.
