IGNOU Admissions 2026: Overview



The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), recognized as the largest open university in India, has launched its admission process for the academic year 2026. This initiative allows a vast number of students to apply for Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), Diploma, and Certificate programs available through Open Distance Learning (ODL) and Online formats. Students can conveniently enroll in popular courses like MBA, MCA, BCA, MA, and M.Com from their homes.


Admission Process Details

The admission process for the July 2026 session at IGNOU commenced on May 20, 2026. Interested candidates can submit their applications online until July 15, 2026. Applications for ODL and Distance Learning courses can be made at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in, while those for Online courses should be submitted at ignouiop.samarth.edu.in.


New Requirement: APAAR ID

A significant update in this admission cycle is the mandatory requirement of an APAAR ID. Students must ensure they have this ID ready before starting their application, as it is essential for completing the process. The APAAR ID acts as a digital identity linked to the Academic Bank of Credits, safeguarding students' academic records.


Scholarship Applications

Eligible students can also apply for Government of India scholarship schemes after their admission is confirmed. Applications for these scholarships can be submitted through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.
