Introduction to New Kendriya Vidyalayas

In a significant development, the government has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across India, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for children. Currently, there are 1,288 KVs serving approximately 1.362 million students.

Government Investment in Education

During a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a budget of ₹5,862 crore was allocated for the new schools, which will be utilized over the next nine years. This funding will focus on various aspects of school development.

Budget Breakdown:

  • ₹2,585 crore for infrastructure, including modern classrooms, laboratories, and playgrounds.

  • ₹3,277 crore for teacher salaries and educational materials.

These KVs will be designated as "Adarsh Vidyalayas" (model schools) in line with the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020, incorporating Balvatika programs for children aged 3-6, emphasizing play-based learning and creativity.

Locations of New Schools

The demand for Kendriya Vidyalayas remains high, prompting the approval of these new institutions. The distribution of the 57 new schools is as follows:

  • 20 schools in districts without a Kendriya Vidyalaya.

  • 14 schools in aspirational districts with slower development.

  • 4 schools in Naxal-affected regions.

  • 5 schools in Northeast and hilly areas.

These schools will be established in 17 states and union territories, continuing a tradition that began in 1962 to serve the children of central government employees and military personnel, now extending benefits to all children.
