For those considering a PhD following their postgraduate studies, a remarkable opportunity has emerged. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, in collaboration with the University of Queensland, is launching a joint PhD program aimed at eligible candidates nationwide. Participants in this program will have the unique chance to study in both India and Australia, with selected candidates receiving scholarships.


Application Timeline

The application window for the joint PhD program at IIT Delhi and the University of Queensland opens on October 30th and will close on January 7th, 2026. Interested candidates can submit their applications online at UQIITD.org. The list of accepted applicants will be announced between January 21st and March 4th, 2026, followed by interviews scheduled from April 7th to 16th, 2026.


Details of the Joint PhD Degree

This collaborative PhD program, initiated by the University of Queensland and the IIT Delhi Research Academy, allows students to earn a joint PhD degree from both institutions after completing a four-year course.


Scholarship Information

Students accepted into the joint PhD program will benefit from a scholarship covering four years, which includes a living allowance and the University of Queensland Scholarship Fee. Specifically, eligible students will receive a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 during their first year at IIT Delhi, increasing to ₹42,000 in the third and fourth years, along with an additional ₹10,000 monthly top-up.


During the second year, while conducting research at the University of Queensland, students will receive an annual stipend of ₹36,400. The scholarship will also cover tuition fees at the University of Queensland and provide travel allowances for the journey from India to Australia.
