The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is preparing to unveil the updated schedule for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET). Reports indicate that the exam was delayed due to administrative issues, prompting candidates to regularly check the official website for updates.


For those aiming to teach in CBSE-affiliated institutions, the revised exam date for the CTET, scheduled for September 2026, will soon be announced on the official site, ctet.nic.in.


Once the new exam dates are published, the board will also provide exam city slips and admit cards. The exam city slip will indicate the location where candidates will take their test.


Reopening of Application Process

Application Window Reopened Following Supreme Court Verdict


A key factor behind the rescheduling of the CTET exam is the reopening of the application process. Following a pivotal ruling by the Supreme Court, CBSE reopened the application window for the September 2026 CTET exam. Candidates had the opportunity to apply from August 25 to September 1, 2026. With the application phase now concluded, the board is finalizing a new schedule for the 22nd edition of the exam, which will be announced shortly.


Exam Format Details

What will the exam pattern be like?


The CTET 2026 exam will be conducted in an offline format. Candidates will have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the test, which will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) totaling 150 marks. Paper 1 will include five sections, while Paper 2 will have four sections. A minimum score of 90 marks is required to pass the exam.


What is the difference between Paper 1 and Paper 2?


Paper 1 is designed for those aspiring to teach primary classes (1 to 5), whereas Paper 2 is for candidates looking to teach upper primary classes (6 to 8).


This exam is essential for anyone seeking a teaching role in Central Government schools or state-run government schools.


CBSE has announced that the CTET certificate will now hold lifelong validity for all candidates. Once the exam is passed, the certificate remains valid indefinitely. Candidates must download their admit card once available and bring it to the examination center, as entry will not be allowed without it.
