Overview of the SAFAL Assessment



The SAFAL Assessment is a new initiative aimed at evaluating children's comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. This assessment aligns with the New Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes a shift from rote learning to a deeper understanding of subjects.


Exam Details and Schedule

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has scheduled the SAFAL Assessment for the academic year 2025-26, commencing on December 8. This pen-and-paper examination will be held in schools nationwide, targeting students in grades 6 to 9. Schools have been provided with guidelines and a link to download OMR sheets a day prior to the exam.


Objectives of the Assessment

The primary goal of the SAFAL Assessment is to minimize rote memorization and evaluate students' genuine understanding of concepts. It aims to assess their critical thinking skills and their ability to apply classroom knowledge effectively. CBSE emphasizes that this is not a competitive exam; results will be analyzed internally by schools to identify strengths and areas for improvement.


Detailed Exam Schedule

The exam schedule is as follows:



  • Class 9: Begins December 8 with Science, followed by Language on December 9, and Mathematics on December 10.


  • Class 6: Starts December 11 with Environmental Science, Language on December 15, and Mathematics on December 16.



These assessments will focus on students' understanding and their ability to respond to questions rather than merely recalling memorized information.


Bilingual Examination

The SAFAL Assessment will be conducted in both Hindi and English. OMR sheets will be printed and distributed to students on the day of the exam.
