CBSE Introduces New Process for Answer Sheet Evaluation and Re-evaluation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to revolutionize the answer sheet evaluation process by providing scanned copies to students within 48 hours of application. This change allows students to quickly identify errors in their evaluations. The application window for obtaining these copies opens from May 19 to May 22, 2026, with subsequent verification and re-evaluation processes. CBSE has also reduced fees significantly and will conduct all procedures online. Students can expect updated results by mid-June 2026. Read on for detailed insights into this new process.

CBSE Introduces New Process for Answer Sheet Evaluation and Re-evaluation

Overview of CBSE's New Evaluation Process

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to provide students with scanned copies of their answer sheets within about 48 hours after they submit their requests. This initiative aims to help students quickly identify any potential errors in their evaluated answer sheets.

Key Changes in the Evaluation Process

This year, CBSE has implemented several notable modifications to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) and the processes for rechecking and re-evaluation. A significant change is that students will now have the chance to view a scanned copy of their evaluated answer sheets for the first time. This will enable them to decide whether to apply for verification or re-evaluation after reviewing their sheets.

Application Timeline

What is the Application Window?

Students can apply for a scanned copy or photocopy of their answer sheets from May 19 to May 22, 2026. The verification of marks and re-evaluation will follow from May 26 to May 29, 2026. It is important to note that the portal will initially open only for viewing answer sheets, not for the entire rechecking process. According to CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh, the portal is expected to go live on May 19 in the morning, around 9:50 AM, and will remain accessible until 11:59 PM on May 22.

Receiving Scanned Answer Sheets

When Will the Scanned Answer Sheets Be Received?

CBSE plans to provide students with scanned copies of their answer sheets approximately 48 hours after they submit their applications. This allows students to quickly check for any discrepancies in their evaluations. The sequence of the process has changed; previously, students received a photocopy after verification, but now they will first receive the scanned copy. This enables them to assess whether they need further verification or re-evaluation. It is crucial to understand that the verification of marks does not involve re-examining the answers but rather ensures that the total marks are calculated correctly and that no answers were overlooked.

Details on Re-evaluation

What will be checked during re-evaluation?

During re-evaluation, only the specific questions for which a student has requested a review will be re-examined. If a student believes they received low marks on a particular question, they can request a re-evaluation for that question alone.

Fee Structure Changes

Reduction in Fees

CBSE has significantly lowered the fees this time. The cost is set at ₹100 for a scanned copy, ₹100 for mark verification, and ₹25 per question for re-evaluation. These fees were previously much higher. Additionally, if a student's marks increase after re-evaluation, the fee will be refunded; however, if there is no change in marks, the fee will not be refunded.

Online Process Only

The Entire Process Will Remain Online

All procedures will be conducted online, and no offline applications will be accepted. Students are encouraged to apply for re-evaluation only after thoroughly reviewing their scanned answer sheets, as fees are charged per question. Given the expected high traffic on the portal, students should avoid waiting until the last day to submit their applications.

Expected Timeline for Results

When will the results be declared following re-evaluation and verification?

CBSE has not yet confirmed the official date for the revised results of the re-evaluation and verification processes. However, based on the current schedule, it is anticipated that updated results may be released in June 2026. The verification and re-evaluation processes are set to continue until May 29, and typically, revised marks are released within 2 to 3 weeks. Therefore, students can expect their updated results by mid-June or the last week of June, pending an official announcement from CBSE.
