CBSE Board Exam Twice a Year

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant change for Class 10 students. Beginning in 2026, the CBSE Class 10 Board Exam will be conducted twice annually, as confirmed by Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), aimed at offering students greater flexibility and enhanced opportunities to excel in their examinations. The draft for this new examination format has already received CBSE's approval.


Structure of the 10th and 12th Board Exams from 2026

As per CBSE's guidelines, the first session of the Biannual Exam is scheduled for February, while the second session will take place in May 2026. Class 10 students will be required to participate in the first phase of the board exams, whereas the second phase will be optional.


Highlights of the New CBSE Exam Pattern

Under the new CBSE framework, internal assessments will occur only once. The results for the first phase of the Class 10 board exams will be released in April, while the second phase results will be available in June.


Rationale Behind the Change in Exam Pattern

This modification aims to alleviate pressure on students, allowing them to perform better. The NEP 2020 is focused on creating a more adaptable and contemporary education system.


Students will no longer depend solely on a single exam throughout the year; they can choose to take either of the two exams and use their best score for the final evaluation.


Updates for Class 12 Students

Currently, there are no alterations to the Class 12 Board Exam, which will continue to be held once a year.


Education specialists believe that this new approach will help reduce mental stress among students and provide them with improved preparation opportunities. This change is expected to lower the dropout rate and create more chances for students.
