CBSE Introduces Affordable Re-evaluation Process for Class 12 Students

The CBSE has introduced a new re-evaluation process for Class 12 students, significantly reducing fees for obtaining scanned copies and re-evaluating answer sheets. This initiative aims to address student concerns following the implementation of the On-Screen Marking system. Students can now have their answer sheets reviewed at a fraction of the previous cost, with the added assurance that fees will be refunded if their marks increase. This move is expected to enhance transparency and accessibility in the evaluation process, allowing more students to seek clarity on their results.

Overview of the CBSE Re-evaluation Process 2026

Students who are anxious about their marks after the CBSE Class 12 results can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has significantly lowered the fees associated with re-evaluation, mark verification, and obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets. A notable aspect of this initiative is that if a student's marks increase after re-evaluation, the Board will refund the fee paid by the student. This makes the process of having answer sheets re-evaluated much more accessible and cost-effective than before.

Addressing Student Concerns Amidst OSM Implementation

This year marked the first large-scale implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system by CBSE. Under this new system, answer sheets were evaluated digitally. However, following the results announcement, many students and parents expressed concerns regarding the evaluation process. Complaints surfaced on social media about unexpectedly low marks, discrepancies in scanned copies, and other evaluation issues. In response to these concerns, the Board decided to enhance the transparency and student-friendliness of post-result procedures, including fee reductions to encourage more students to have their answer sheets re-evaluated.

Significant Fee Reductions for Students

With the new fee structure, students will now pay only ₹100 per subject for a scanned copy of their answer sheet, down from ₹700—a reduction of ₹600. The verification fee has also been lowered to ₹100 per subject. For re-evaluation, the cost is now just ₹25 per question, compared to the previous ₹100. These changes are seen as a major relief for students who previously found the costs prohibitive.

Refund Policy for Re-evaluation Fees

In another significant move, CBSE has announced that if a student's marks increase after re-evaluation or if any errors are found in the assessment, the re-evaluation fee will be refunded. This policy aims to alleviate financial burdens for students who might have hesitated to apply for re-evaluation due to costs.

Steps for the Re-evaluation Process

Students dissatisfied with their marks must first request a scanned copy of their answer sheet. After reviewing the scanned copy for any unassessed answers, errors in total marks, or missing pages, they can apply for mark verification. If they find that marks were insufficiently awarded or an answer was not evaluated correctly, they can then submit a re-evaluation request for that specific question.

Potential Changes in Marks Post Re-evaluation

CBSE has clarified that after re-evaluation, a student's marks may increase, decrease, or remain the same. The final marks determined after the review process will be considered conclusive, and all subsequent actions will be based on these revised marks.

High Demand for Scanned Copies

This year, following the OSM system's implementation, a significant number of students requested scanned copies of their answer sheets. Many students and parents expressed both curiosity and concern about the evaluation process, leading to a record number of applications. Experts believe that making scanned copies available and reducing fees will improve transparency in the examination process and provide students with clearer insights into their assessments.

Guidance for Students from CBSE

The CBSE has urged students to seek information regarding re-evaluation and verification exclusively from the Board's official website and notices. They advise against relying on rumors or unverified information circulating on social media. The Board is committed to continuously improving the examination system and enhancing transparency. Therefore, students now have an excellent opportunity to have their answer sheets re-evaluated at a reduced fee and to voice their concerns.
