CBSE Implements New Portal for Class 12 Answer Sheet Re-evaluation Amid Security Concerns

Introduction to CBSE's New Re-evaluation Process

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is set to conduct the re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets using its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. This decision comes after the IIT review panel approved the initiative, allowing CBSE to manage the re-evaluation through its own portal. This shift was prompted by security vulnerabilities found in the Coempt EduTeck portal, which raised concerns about potential data leaks.

Understanding the Issues with Coempt EduTeck

This year, CBSE utilized the OSM system for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets, awarding the contract to Coempt EduTeck. Following the announcement of results, numerous students reported discrepancies in their marks. Complaints included blurred images, missing pages, swapped answer sheets, and unmarked questions, leading to significant unrest regarding the tender awarded to Coempt EduTeck. In response, the government has established a committee to investigate these claims, alongside various technical issues related to the portal for accessing scanned answer sheets.

Approval from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur Panel

In response to the controversies surrounding the OSM process and the issues with the scanned copy portal, a review panel consisting of experts from IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur was formed. This panel identified multiple flaws in the Coempt EduTeck portal and subsequently approved CBSE's initiative to create its own portal for re-evaluating Class 12 answer sheets. Reports indicate that the IIT expert review panel has sanctioned this move due to security concerns and previous cyberattack attempts.

Enhanced Data Management by CBSE

According to sources, all records related to Class 12 answer sheets and examination data have been migrated to servers directly overseen by CBSE. This transition aims to enhance the board's control over security and operational management. The IIT panel has confirmed that CBSE will not utilize the Coempt EduTeck platform anymore. The data concerning students and examinations has been relocated to infrastructure managed by CBSE itself. A member of the IIT panel noted that while the new portal retains features similar to the previous one, it incorporates several security upgrades to improve data protection and rectify the issues identified during the review.
