CBSE Board Exam Schedule for 2026

Exam Start Date: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will commence the 10th and 12th board examinations on February 17, 2026, at various locations both nationally and internationally. An estimated 4.6 million students are expected to participate in these exams. Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Controller of Examinations, emphasized the importance of punctuality, stating that the exams will start promptly at 10:30 AM, with entry permitted only until 10:00 AM.

Importance of Timeliness

Arriving on time at the exam center allows students to utilize a 15-minute reading period. The CBSE has urged students to plan their journeys considering traffic, weather, and distance to ensure timely arrival. A standardized bell system will be in place to help students manage their time effectively during the exam.

Entry Guidelines for Exam Centers

Entry Timing: Students can enter the exam center starting at 9:00 AM, with the gates closing at 10:00 AM (IST). It is advisable for students to arrive by 9:30 AM to avoid delays related to admit card checks and room assignments.

Reading Time and Exam Structure

Reading Period: Question papers will be distributed at 10:15 AM, and students will have until 10:30 AM to read the questions without writing any answers. This time is crucial for strategizing their responses.

Bell Schedule for the Exam

The CBSE has implemented a bell system to assist students in managing their time during the exam:

  • Long Bell (10:30 AM): Marks the official start of the exam.

  • Single Bell (Every Hour): A short bell will ring each hour.

  • Warning Bell (10 Minutes Before End): Signals students to wrap up their answers.

  • Long Bell (End): Indicates the conclusion of the exam, after which no further writing is allowed.

Dress Code and Allowed Items

Dress Code: Regular students must wear their school uniforms, while private candidates should opt for light-colored, simple attire. Only essential items such as admit cards in a transparent pouch, pens, pencils, and a clear water bottle are permitted inside the exam hall.

Prohibited Items in the Exam Center

Students are strictly forbidden from bringing mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, or any electronic gadgets into the exam center. Possession of these items may lead to disqualification under the Unfair Means (UFM) Act.
