CBSE Board Exam Eligibility Criteria Announced for 10th and 12th Grades

Eligibility Requirements for CBSE Board Exams
CBSE Board Exams: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has outlined the eligibility criteria for students wishing to take the 10th and 12th board examinations. A key requirement is that students must maintain at least 75% attendance in school to qualify for the exams. Additionally, students are required to study all subjects over a two-year period leading up to the board exams.
The board emphasized that internal assessments across all subjects are compulsory, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
In an official announcement, the board stated, "To be eligible for the board examinations conducted by CBSE, students must complete two-year programs for Class 10 and Class 12, which encompass classes 9 and 10, and classes 11 and 12, respectively." Furthermore, it was noted, "Internal assessment is a continuous process over two years. If students do not attend school, their internal assessments cannot be conducted. Without performance in these assessments, students' results cannot be declared. Such students, even if they are regular attendees, will fall into the 'Essential Repeat' category."
Permission Required for Additional Subjects
Students will have the opportunity to select additional subjects in both classes 10 and 12. According to the official guidelines, "In class 10, students may choose up to 2 additional subjects alongside the mandatory 5 subjects, while in class 12, only 1 additional subject is permitted. Students opting for additional subjects will study them for a duration of two years."
The board also clarified that if a school has not received authorization from CBSE to offer a subject and lacks the necessary teachers, laboratories, or facilities, that subject will not be available to students as either a main or additional subject.
Moreover, the board stated, "If a regular student has previously taken additional subjects and is categorized as 'Compartment' or 'Essential Repeat', they may sit for the examination as a private candidate in the respective category." It was reiterated that no student who does not meet these criteria will be permitted to take the board examinations. The statement also highlighted that there are two national school boards under the Ministry of Education: CBSE, which offers traditional education, and NIOS, which provides education through open and distance learning.
