Overview of CBSE Class 12 Practical Exams

CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released new guidelines for private candidates taking the Class 12 practical exams in 2026. The practical exams are scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 17, 2026.

Guidelines for Subjects Lacking Practicals

The board has specified that for subjects without practical components, there will be no project work or internal assessments. Instead, any project or internal assessment marks will be proportionately added to the theory exam scores.

School Instructions

CBSE-affiliated institutions are required to ensure the presence of internal examiners. If a subject teacher is unavailable at the examination center, a qualified teacher from a nearby CBSE-affiliated school will be appointed.

Practical Exam Procedures

The board has mandated that only practical answer sheets provided by regional offices should be utilized. Examiners must ensure that all details on the answer sheets are filled out accurately.

Exam Centers and Examiner Assignments

As per the official CBSE notification, the practical exams for Class 12 will occur at the same centers designated for the theory exams. External examiners will be appointed by the Regional Director/Officer, while internal examiners will be selected by the Center Superintendent from among the school's teachers.

Eligibility Criteria for Students

Students who participated in the Class 12 practical exams in 2025 and 2024 but did not receive marks due to re-examinations, absences, or other valid reasons are eligible to take the practical exams for the 2026-27 academic year. Additionally, students from 2023 or earlier who registered for all subjects in the private category can also sit for their respective practical exams.
