The Bar Council of India will be conducting the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) IX.  The exam is will be held on 13 December 2015. This exam is conducted to assess the capability of an advocate to practice legal profession in India. Once a candidates qualifies in the bar examination, he/she is then awarded the ‘Certificate of Practice’ by the BCI. The exam is mandatory for all law students graduating from the academic year 2015-2016 onwards. The candidates can apply to appear for the exam only after they have enrolled themselves as an advocate under Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961.

Note:- The examination will be conducted in nine languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya and English.

AIBE 9 Eligibility criteria 2015:

  • The examination is compulsory for all law students’ graduation from the academic year 2015-16.
  • The law candidates can apply for the examination only after enrolling as an advocate under Section 24 of the Advocate Act, 1961.
  • The candidate should have qualified LL.B degree program (either 3 years or 5 years) and the law degree must have been awarded by any Indian institute.
  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Candidate should be enrolled with any State Bar Council.
  • Candidate should possess an Advocate ID Card/Enrollment Card (issued by the State Bar Council).
  • If you are belonging to any of the reserved categories (SC/ST/EBC/PWD), you need to have the respective certificates for claiming the reservation.

AIBE 9 Application procedure 2015:

  • The candidates can apply online.
  • The candidates are required to register themselves first.
  • The candidates are also required to pay an application fee of Rs 1950 through e-challan which includes the cost of receiving preparatory materials.

How to apply: The eligible candidates are required to apply online only for this exam.

Exam Syllabus: The subjects are taken from the syllabi prescribed by the Bar Council of India for the three-year and five-year LL.B. program at law schools in India. Questions from 19 subject areas will be asked. There will be total 100 questions.

The Bar Council of India is a statutory body established under the Advocates Act 1961 that regulates the legal practice and legal education in India. Its members are elected from amongst the lawyers in India and as such represents the Indian bar. It prescribes standards of professional conduct, etiquettes and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar. It also sets standards for legal education and grants recognition to Universities whose degree in law will serve as a qualification for students to enroll themselves as advocates upon graduation.
