Uttar Pradesh School Summer Vacation Extended Till July 2 Due to Heatwave

The summer vacation in government primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh has once again been extended due to the heatwave, as announced by the Department of Basic Education. The new extension sets the summer vacation until July 2. A notice released by Pratap Singh Baghel, secretary of Uttar Pradesh Basic Shiksha Parishad, stated that all primary and upper primary schools in the state will reopen on Monday, July 3. The basic education department confirmed the extension through a tweet, mentioning that the schools will open on July 3, 2023.
The Uttar Pradesh government has now extended the school summer vacation date for the second time in a row. Initially planned to reopen on June 15, the summer holidays were extended until June 25 due to the heatwave. Starting from July 3, schools will resume regular operations based on their individual plans and timetables. Prior to this, schools had briefly reopened on June 21 to observe International Yoga Day.
The schools will follow the previously announced timetable from July 3. The official statement emphasizes the need for proper cleanliness in restrooms, access to drinking water, and appropriate seating arrangements for students before reopening. The School Management Committee will be responsible for ensuring cleanliness in accredited schools managed by the UP Basic Education Council. Additionally, teachers have been advised to complete all essential tasks at their respective levels before the school's reopening. These tasks include arrangements for mid-day meals, handling Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) related activities, textbook distribution, and other necessary errands.
It is worth noting that Uttar Pradesh and several other states are currently experiencing heatwaves. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recently issued a warning of "severe to very severe" heatwave conditions in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Telangana. In response to the warning, several states have declared summer vacations for their schools, while others have extended the existing holidays.
