Reason for Cancellation

The UGC NET exam, scheduled for June 18, was abruptly canceled on June 19 by the Ministry of Education citing concerns over the integrity of the examination. The decision came after receiving input from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)’s National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit. The Ministry emphasized the need to ensure the integrity of the examination, and the matter has been handed over to the CBI for investigation.

What is UGC NET?

The full form of UGC NET is the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. It is primarily an examination conducted for academics, often referred to as the NET exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts this exam on behalf of the UGC. The exam is held twice a year, usually in the months of June and December, and has been conducted since 1989-90.

Eligibility and Fields

There is no age limit to appear for this exam. Candidates who have completed their Master's degree with at least 55% marks in relevant subjects can apply. The exam covers over 100 subjects, and candidates can choose their subject of expertise for the test.

Roles and Opportunities

Those who pass this exam become eligible to apply for the role of Professor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor in colleges, universities, etc. Alternatively, candidates can pursue research and contribute to their chosen field.

Examination Pattern

The exam is conducted in both Hindi and English languages. It consists of multiple-choice questions and has a duration of three hours. The exam has a common paper for all candidates and a second paper based on the candidate's chosen subject.
