The NTA is responsible for conducting UGC NET, which determines the eligibility of Indian citizens for the jobs of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor in Indian Universities and Colleges. UGC NET is conducted twice a year, in June and December. However, due to the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021, NTA merged the cycles and conducted them together. To ensure better regulation, NTA is conducting the UGC NET 2022 December cycle in February and March 2023, in accordance with UGC guidelines.
