According to the latest All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report for 2021-22, there is a significant surge in the enrollment of students in Computer Engineering over the past three years. The report highlights that the field of Computer Engineering has witnessed a remarkable 38% growth in student admissions. The Ministry of Education has revealed that the top five engineering branches, in descending order, are Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

Admission Trends in Top 5 Engineering Branches

Analysis of the data indicates that only Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering experienced an increase in enrollment, with growth rates of 38.82% and 1.44%, respectively. However, other branches such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Civil Engineering observed a decline in admissions by 15.45%, 0.81%, and 3.31%, respectively.

Specifics of Computer Engineering

Computer Engineering, in particular, witnessed the highest enrollment in the academic year 2021-22, with a staggering 12.9 lakh admissions. Following closely, Electronics Engineering secured the second position with 6 lakh admissions. Other branches recorded admissions as follows: 5.74 lakh in Mechanical Engineering, 4.64 lakh in Civil Engineering, and 3.75 lakh in Electrical Engineering.

Female Participation in UG, PG, MPhil, and PhD

The AISHE report reveals that in the Science stream, encompassing Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), MPhil, and PhD levels, a total of 57,18,185 students enrolled, with females constituting 52.1%. At the UG level, out of 49,18,425 enrollments, females accounted for 50.8%, while at the PG level, with 7,52,807 enrollments, females comprised 61.2%. Additionally, at the PhD level in Science, 45,324 enrollments saw participation from over 50% females.
