TNEA Begins General Engineering Counselling From Today

The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee has taken steps to streamline the engineering counseling process. This year, they have reduced the time frame for paying tuition fees and confirming seat allocation from seven days to five days. The first round of general engineering counseling will be conducted online on Friday.
In the state, there are a total of 442 engineering institutions with 1.6 lakh seats available under the government quota. Around 1.7 lakh candidates are expected to participate in the general counseling this year. Students who accept the provisional allotment must pay the tuition fees directly at the colleges. However, those who accept the allotment but wish for a better one can pay the fees at the TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFCs).
The tuition fees for accredited courses at self-financing colleges vary, ranging from 27,500 for government colleges to 2,00 for government colleges. The specific fees for each student will be indicated on their allotment order, as stated by T Purushothaman, the secretary of TNEA. If the fees are not paid within the five-day window, the seats will be considered vacant and given to other deserving students.
The initial counseling session will have around 22,761 participants, and they will have from July 28 to July 30 to make their selections. A preliminary allocation list will then be released on July 31, 2023, and applicants need to confirm their allotment before August 1. On August 2, TNEA will announce a tentative allotment list.
In other news, the TNEA Committee has already completed the online counseling for special reservation categories, which include sportspersons, persons with disabilities, and wards of ex-servicemen. A total of 685 seats have been allotted under various categories, with 462 seats in the sports category and 385 applicants securing them. However, out of 2,204 eligible candidates in this category, only 1,635 participated in the counseling process, as reported by an English Daily on Thursday.
