Thirteen BHU Students Booked for Blocking Road, VC Residence
The administration of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has officially filed a complaint against a group of 13 students, accusing them of organizing a protest that involved blocking the road in front of Singh Dwar and the residence of the vice-chancellor. According to the information provided by the police on Wednesday, Ashwani Pandey, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Lanka, revealed that an FIR had been registered by the BHU administration against these 13 students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Vocation (BVoc) program.
As detailed in the complaint submitted by the Proctorial Board, the implicated students staged a protest in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence on July 29. Later that same day, they proceeded to Singh Dwar and disrupted the flow of traffic. Despite the university administration's repeated efforts to engage with them and address their concerns, the students stood their ground, displaying a level of inflexibility. These actions have been categorized as acts of indiscipline, as stated in the complaint.
Pandey further clarified that a formal case has been registered against the aforementioned 13 students based on the official complaint. The students, who were advocating for improvements in faculty quality and the continuation of their academic program, chose to disperse from the location once the FIR had been filed. They relocated outside the vice-chancellor’s residence. Sources within the police department shared that an investigation into the matter is being conducted in collaboration with the university administration.
